The family of a young Davis man who died earlier this month has established a memorial fund to benefit underprivileged youths who wish to play baseball with Davis Little League.
Contributions to the Bryson Memorial Fund, named in honor of Bryson Rush LaBourdette, may be made at the Travis Credit Union, 1380 E. Covell Blvd. in Davis. Proceeds will go toward the league’s registration assistance program as well as the purchase of uniforms for children who otherwise could not afford them.
Additional information, such as where to send donations by mail and how to contribute baseball equipment, is available on the Bryson LaBourdette Memorial Fund page on Facebook.
An avid baseball player in his youth, the 25-year-old LaBourdette died Jan. 7 after being struck by several vehicles on Highway 50 in West Sacramento, which he had tried to cross on foot after his car became disabled with a flat tire.
LaBourdette’s father, Kirk LaBourdette, says his family intends for the memorial fund to carry on “for generations,” assisting youths not only from group homes but those who live in private residences as well.
“We want to make sure that every kid who wants to play baseball is able to,” he said.
