A Lodi man escaped with only minor injuries Friday morning despite a collision with a tree that cut his vehicle in half, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred shortly before 6 a.m. on westbound Interstate 80 near the Yolo Causeway, where according to the CHP, Cornell Deon Carter, 45, sideswiped a Ford truck, causing his Honda Accord to veer off the roadway and strike the tree.
After slicing in half, the two pieces of the Honda rolled into a wire fence before coming to rest in a field north of the freeway, the CHP reported. Carter was taken to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento with minor injuries, while the driver of the truck was unhurt.
