The search for a Winters murder suspect marked its fourth day Thursday with local and federal authorities still trying to determine the whereabouts of William Carl Gardner III.
Gardner is charged with Monday’s fatal shooting of Leslie Pinkston, 32, in her vehicle that was parked outside her Railroad Avenue workplace. Gardner, 30, is charged with stalking and threatening Pinkston, his former girlfriend, at her Winters home earlier this year.
On Wednesday, Winters Police Chief Sergio Gutierrez announced that the U.S. Marshals Service had joined the hunt for Gardner, an addition he said would offer the homicide case national as well as international exposure.
Gardner (aka Malik Mahammad) — who is 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds with black hair and brown eyes — should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about him is urged to call Winters police at 530-795-4561, or the U.S. Marshals Service at 877-926-8332.
