The Woodland office of the California Highway Patrol will conduct a sobriety and driver license safety checkpoint Friday night somewhere within the unincorporated area of Yolo County. The location will be announced later Friday.

The purpose of the checkpoint is to detect and deter both drunken and unlicensed drivers, CHP Officer Bryan Konvalin said. It will be staffed by officers trained in the detection of alcohol- or drug-impaired drivers.

Normally, the enforcement actions taken at a DUI driver license checkpoint will be limited to driver license violations, DUI, open alcoholic beverage containers, drugs and serious criminal activities. For most mechanical violations, a verbal warning will be issued.
