A woman was hospitalized Tuesday night after the carbon monoxide detector activated in her South Davis apartment, according to the Davis Fire Department.

Spokeswoman Evelyn George said a crew was dispatched at 11:51 p.m. to the New Harmony Apartments, 3030 Cowell Blvd., where the resident said the alarm had been sounding for about 10 minutes. Firefighters detected a CO reading of 39 parts per million, but the source could not be determined.

CO levels above 25 ppm are considered an immediate hazard, Division Chief Paul Swanson said.

The female resident reported feeling light-headed and fainted while speaking with firefighters, George said. She was given oxygen, then taken by ambulance to Sutter Davis Hospital for further treatment.

George said firefighters aired out the evacuated apartment and instructed maintenance personnel not to let anyone return inside until PG&E had investigated and resolved the problem.
