A Davis man who was injured when his bike struck a metal gate near the city’s wastewater treatment plant was listed in fair condition Monday at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.
Plant workers found 56-year-old Thomas Burton at about 6 a.m. Saturday near the facility off County Road 28H northeast of Davis. According to the California Highway Patrol, Burton is believed to have been riding a custom-made speed bike eastbound at a high rate of speed and crashed head-first into a six-inch metal tube that closes off the emergency vehicle access drive.
Burton was not wearing a helmet and was unconscious when he was found, the CHP reported.
