The Davis man who triggered a 2 1/2-hour law-enforcement search last Thursday after fleeing from parole agents has a history of assault, battery and theft convictions, according to the California Department of Corrections and rehabilitation.
Michael Anthony Cruz, 25, was paroled in April 2011 after serving two years of a four-year sentence for assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, CDCR spokesman Bill Sessa said Monday.
That conviction took place in Solano County, as did previous convictions for battery causing serious bodily injury in 2006 and grand theft in 2007 that also resulted in prison terms, Sessa said.
Parole agents attempted to arrest Cruz for a parole violation last Thursday at Fifth and K streets. According to Sessa, Cruz was the subject of an assault complaint out of Vacaville during the Fourth of July weekend.
In addition to the violation, Cruz faces new charges of resisting arrest, prowling and burglary after allegedly running from the parole agents, which led to a multi-agency search through parts of Old East Davis. A police K-9 apprehended the already-handcuffed suspect in the 1200 block of Covell Place.
Cruz was due to be arraigned on the new counts at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Yolo Superior Court. He remains in custody at the Yolo County Jail on a parole hold.
