Woodland police are seeking a shooter who injured a man whose parolee status helped officers investigate the crime.

The probe began at about 7:45 p.m. Thursday, when Woodland Memorial Hospital staff called police to report a gunshot victim being treated for bullet wounds to his abdomen and leg, both inflicted by a small-caliber gun, Sgt. Victoria Danzl said.

“The victim wasn’t forthcoming with information; however, he was on parole with an ankle monitor,” Danzl said. “Officers contacted parole and they pulled the victim’s ankle monitor GPS information up.”

According to Danzl, the data showed the victim had been in the area of Yolano Drive and Lemen Avenue “for some time” before going to the hospital. Officers went to the scene and found a .22-caliber slug in the street along with some of the victim’s items near a parked car.

“Two other victims were contacted at the location and it was determined they had been in the line of fire as well,” Danzl said.

The witnesses reported that a dark-colored sedan or sport-utility vehicle drove eastbound on Lemen Avenue and stopped in the street, where a Hispanic male got out of the car and asked, “You bang?,” followed by four to five gunshots.

The suspect then got back in the vehicle and fled the scene eastbound, and may have been seen circling the hospital after the victim arrived, Danzl said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Woodland Police Department at 530-666-2411.
