Davis police arrested three people on assault charges in recent days during several unrelated incidents.
Officers received several reports last Thursday of a man getting into altercations with relatives at an apartment in the 1600 block of Drew Circle, Lt. Art Camacho said. At one point he allegedly physically attacked a woman at the residence, prompting another man to intervene.
“That enraged him (the suspect),” who then brandished a knife and threatened to kill the other man, according to Camacho. The victims fled to a nearby gas station and called police, who arrested the suspect at the scene.
Ronald Jake Herrera, 58, a local transient, was booked into the Yolo County Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats, Camacho said.
A second alleged assault occurred Friday evening at the Amtrak station on Second Street, where the victim reported being attacked after refusing to buy a train ticket to Sacramento for a man he didn’t know.
“When the victim said he couldn’t do that because he didn’t have enough money, the suspect kicked the victim in the head and threw a wine bottle at him,” causing visible injuries, Camacho said. The suspect, 41-year-old Shawn Patrick Sweeney of Orangevale, went to the Yolo County Jail on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.
Camacho said the third suspect used his hands to assault a female relative at a hotel in the 100 block of B Street after a verbal argument turned physical at about 2 a.m. Monday.
“During the argument, it appeared that the suspect attempted to strangle (the victim) with his hands,” Camacho said. Officers arrested 24-year-old Jonas Enrique Navarrete on assault charges and lodged him at the Yolo County Jail.
