Guests of the Hilton Garden Inn in downtown Davis got a rude awakening Wednesday with the discovery that 10 cars had been vandalized in the hotel parking structure during the night.

Davis police arrested a suspect in the case after he approached them on nearby Olive Drive.

Lt. Art Camacho said the officers were on routine foot patrol in the 900 block of Olive Drive “when they heard loud banging noises” coming from the downtown area at about 2:20 a.m.

Shortly thereafter, they were approached by 44-year-old Shayne Allen Pryde, who was walking away from the source of the earlier noise, Camacho said.

”At the same time, they became aware that somebody had just committed vandalism on 10 cars at the Hilton Garden Inn,” 110 F St., using either a pipe or a baseball bat, Camacho said.

A video provided by a witness to The Davis Enterprise shows extensive damage to at least seven of the vehicles, their windows shattered and glass shards littering the ground around them.

Pryde, who according to Camacho has had prior contacts with Davis police, was determined to be a suspect in the crimes and booked into the Yolo County Jail on felony vandalism charges.
