A newly formed Davis Police Department unit arrested a Woodland man on weapon and drug charges Wednesday.

The Community-Oriented Policing and Problem-Solving Unit (COPPS), which works in cooperation with citizens to address problems in their neighborhoods, served a search warrant Wednesday in the 100 block of Kern Avenue following an investigation into “recent, illegal firearms sales and opiate sales in the city of Davis,” Deputy Police Chief Paul Doroshov said.

“A total of seven firearms along with high-capacity magazines were located,” including one gun determined to have been stolen in Connecticut, Doroshov added.

COPPS officers booked 48-year-old Donald Cupler into the Yolo County Jail on suspicion of possessing illegal firearms, unlawful possession of ammunition and various drug charges including possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, according to Doroshov.
