Two burglaries, a package theft and a roommate dispute led to multiple unrelated arrests this week, the Davis Police Department reported.
Manuel Antonio Beteta-Monterroso was arrested Sunday night at an apartment in the 500 block of Alvarado Avenue, where a woman arrived home around 11:20 p.m. to discover a man taking a shower in the bathroom.
“She told officers she did not know the suspect and has never seen him before,” Deputy Police Chief Paul Doroshov said. “Upon checking the house, officers found a backpack (allegedly owned by the suspect) that contained items belonging to the victim’s family.”
Beteta-Monterroso, 29, was booked into the Yolo County Jail on suspicion of burglary, petty theft and aggravated trespassing, Doroshov said.
On Monday, officers arrested a 37-year-old man after allegedly finding him in possession of a stolen Amazon package in the Covell Park area.
A probation search of Woodland resident Matthew Ray Vandelinder led to the discovery of a knife, burglary tools and unspecified narcotics, Sgt. Janell Bestpitch said. He also went to the jail, facing charges of receiving stolen property, carrying a concealed dagger and drug and burglary tool possession.
Police said the roommate dispute brewed over the weekend and culminated late Monday night in the 3000 block of Carmelo Lane, where the suspect allegedly tried to break into one housemate’s room and brandished a knife at another.
“The person arrested told his roommates he was going to kill them and mentioned he was looking for a gun he misplaced. Officers located suspect in his room with a knife in his pocket” at about 11:30 p.m. Monday, Bestpitch said.
Richard Amaya Jr., 39, was booked into the Yolo County Jail on charges of attempted burglary, criminal threats and brandishing a weapon, according to Bestpitch.
Finally, an early-morning burglary at a South Davis construction site ended poorly for two Vacaville residents, police said.
Surveillance cameras at a hotel construction zone in the 2700 block of Cowell Boulevard caught the suspected burglary in progress shortly after 4 a.m. Wednesday, prompting a phone call to police.
“They observed a suspect coming out of the building carrying property,” Lt. Mike Munoz said. Arriving officers found a second suspect inside a waiting car, and “he confirmed his partner was inside, stealing stuff.”
Police surrounded the property and ordered the first suspect outside, deploying a K-9 into the building when the man refused to come out, Munoz said. Tyler Matthew Lamar, 23, was treated for dog bites at Sutter Davis Hospital before being booked into the Yolo County Jail.
His alleged getaway driver, 29-year-old Matthew Jean Alvarado, joined him at the jail, where both men face burglary and conspiracy charges, Munoz said.
