Davis police arrested five teenagers on robbery and other charges after they allegedly stole a backpack from a person outside a local liquor store.
According to Lt. Art Camacho, the victim was standing outside Aggie Liquor, 507 L St., when one of the suspects approached him.
“There was some form of verbal (confrontation) that escalated, and the suspect attempted to rip off the victim’s backpack,” Camacho said. As the victim fought back, four more people exited a nearby vehicle “approached the victim and began to physically assault him.”
Officers responded to the scene and conducted an investigation that led them to the apartment complex in the 900 block of Jacobsen Lane in the Cannery neighborhood, “and there they encountered the five suspects,” Camacho said. The suspect vehicle was parked in the area, the victim’s backpack recovered from a nearby trash can.
All five suspects were taken into custody: Marcus Gelpi, 18, of Dixon; and four 17-year-old boys from Davis and Sacramento. They were booked into either the Yolo County Jail or Juvenile Hall on charges of robbery, conspiracy and assault with a deadly weapon.
