The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of a Friday evening collision that killed a motorist from Ukiah.
Officer Rodney Fitzhugh said the three-vehicle crash occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. on southbound Interstate 5 south of County Road 102, where a Volkswagen had been traveling ahead of a Chevrolet.
For an unknown reason, the driver of the Chevrolet was unable to slow or stop his vehicle prior to colliding with the Volkswagen,” Fitzhugh said in a news release. “As a result of this collision the Volkswagen was pushed in a southerly direction, where it collided with a Ford.”
The Volkswagen driver, identified by Yolo County coroner’s officials Tuesday as 40-year-old Jose Molina Felix of Ukiah, died at the scene, Fitzhugh said.
Neither drugs nor alcohol were believed to be factors in the crash; however, anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Woodland CHP office at 530-662-4685.
