A Woodland man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly robbing a grocery store in Woodland and fleeing the scene in his car, where he nearly ran over employees who had been trying to stop him.
At approximately 3:51 p.m. Wednesday, Woodland police officers were dispatched to Nugget Market, 157 Main St., for a report of a suspect that stole an item from the store and then attempted to run over an employee who was trying to detain him in the parking lot.
Officers arrived and learned that the suspect, later identified as Corey Olsen, 35, tried to flee the scene while Nugget employees reached into his vehicle in an attempt to stop him and recover the stolen merchandise. The loss prevention employees were able to move away from the vehicle as Olsen escaped and they did not sustain any injuries.
Woodland police officers found Olsen driving his vehicle later that night on East Beamer Street west of County Road 102. Officers conducted a traffic stop and Olsen was taken into custody without incident. He was later booked into the Yolo County Jail and is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.
