A Davis man is facing multiple felony charges after attacking his roommate and killing one of her pet cats, according to police.
Joshua Tamara Friedman, 44, was taken into custody in the 1800 block of Fremont Court, where officers responded shortly before 5:30 p.m. Monday to a woman’s report of being attacked by her male roommate, Davis police Lt. Art Camacho said. They detained Friedman as he was leaving the apartment.
“An investigation at the scene revealed that prior to the call, Friedman allegedly took one of the female victim’s pet cats for unknown reasons. Friedman then allegedly killed the cat in the garage of the residence,” Camacho said.
The woman told police that Friedman attacked her as she entered the garage, kicking her multiple times in the torso, attempting to tie her hands behind her back with a rope and forcibly stealing her cell phone, according to reports.
“Friedman is further alleged to have terrorized the female by essentially threatening to kill her by placing the rope around her neck,” Camacho added. The woman was able to escape when she told Friedman her other two cats had gone into his bedroom. As he went to look for the animals, the woman ran to a neighbor’s apartment and called police.
The woman sustained minor injuries during the alleged attack. Camacho said officers searched for the other two cats but were unable to find them.
Friedman, meanwhile, was booked into the Yolo County Jail on charges of battery, false imprisonment with violence, terrorist threats, robbery and animal cruelty. He remained in custody on a $50,000 bail hold Tuesday and is scheduled to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Yolo Superior Court.
