Hoping to avoid a speeding ticket, a Davis man found himself in deeper trouble after allegedly leading police on a brief pursuit Friday night, officials said Monday.
Lt. Art Camacho said a patrol officer initiated a traffic stop on a speeding Honda shortly before 9 p.m. in the area of Anderson Road and Villanova Drive. The driver kept on going, however, resulting in the pursuit that lasted just under a half mile.
The driver, identified as 26-year-old Jordan Andrew Gutierrez, came to a stop on Redwood Lane near Rutgers Drive and surrendered to officers who at that point conducted a high-risk traffic stop, according to Camacho.
“An investigation of this case essentially yielded that the driver attempted to flee from police in order to avoid a speeding ticket,” Camacho said. Gutierrez was booked into the Yolo County Jail on evading charges.
