Davis firefighters responded to a fire in the Davisville apartments on Kennedy Place in east Davis Saturday afternoon.
Firefighters arrived on the scene following the 1:44 p.m. call to find smoke coming from one of the units and entered to find a cooking device — possibly a crockpot or rice cooker — on fire, according to Battalion Chief Ron Zoghbi.
The fire was quickly extinguished before it could spread but the unit suffered heavy smoke damage, he said.
Medical aid was called for the one occupant of the unit but he required no medical assistance. The smoke damage did not extend beyond the unit and property management arrived to provide assistance.
The Davisville apartment complex, which serves low-income seniors, is just south of Covell Boulevard between J and L streets.
