Davis police are searching for several suspects who remain at large after robbing a woman at gunpoint Friday night.

Lt. Art Camacho gave the following account:

The woman was walking alone  in the area of Sycamore Lane and West Covell Boulevard at about midnight when she was approached by a silver Honda Accord occupied by three male adults, one of whom had a black handkerchief covering his face.

“They exited the vehicle, threatened the woman with a gun and robbed her of her valuables,” then fled the scene in the Honda, Camacho said. The woman, who was not injured, called 911, bringing several police units to search the area.

One spotted a similar-looking vehicle nearby and conducted a traffic stop, during which the male driver fled from the officer. The Honda was spotted a second time abandoned on Amar Court, north of West Covell, where police reported finding items from the robbery and a black handkerchief inside the car.

“So these people are at large,” Camacho said, adding that officers retraced the route to the traffic-stop point and recovered a firearm, which the suspects are believed to have thrown from the car as they fled.

Camacho said police are holding off from releasing further descriptions of the suspects at this time for investigatory reasons, but said the incident does not appear to be connected to several others robberies that have occurred in the city in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, citizens are urged to use caution while walking in the city at night by traveling in groups and being aware of their surroundings. Camacho also cautioned against carrying valuables, “especially if they are visible,” he said.
