Fire and utility crews responded to the city of Davis’ Public Works Department this week in response to reports of a natural-gas leak.
Assistant Public Works Director Stan Gryczko said several employees detected the gas odor shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday, prompting officials to summon firefighters and PG&E workers to the 1717 Fifth St. property.
According to Gryczko, the PG&E crew traced the leak to a neighboring office building not owned by the city. But while clearing the Public Works property, they found a second underground natural gas leak on the site.
That gas line was shut down until a contractor was brought in to assess and repair the leak, Gryczko said.
“We never evacuated — it wasn’t to that degree,” though three workers were evaluated by firefighters at the scene after they reported feeling nauseous, Gryczko said. Fire officials said the employees declined to be transported to the hospital.
