Davis firefighters responded to two structure-fire reports Friday.
The first incident, reported shortly after 4:30 p.m. in the 3200 block of Bermuda Avenue, turned out to be smoke coming from a heating and air-conditioning unit inside a closet on the second floor of an apartment, fire officials said.
Firefighters discovered a smoldering ember inside the unit and were able to douse it with a water can. No one was displaced from the residence.
The second fire, at 7 p.m. in the 800 block of Cherry Lane, occurred when a cigarette or ash ignited the dried vegetation on a palm tree in the home’s back yard, fire officials said. Crews doused the flames before they could spread beyond the tree.
No injuries were reported from either incident.
