Davis police are investigating an assault Monday night between two brothers that involved a standoff and led to both men being hospitalized.
It began shortly before 7 p.m. at a residence in the 1800 block of Pole Line Road, where officers were dispatched to reports of an argument between the brothers, described as being in their 50s or 60s, that escalated into a stabbing, Deputy Police Chief Paul Doroshov said.
Officers were able to extricate the stabbing victim, who was transported to the UC Davis Medical Center with multiple cuts and stab wounds.
“He got seriously injured, but he’ll make it,” Doroshov said.
Meanwhile, the other brother barricaded himself inside a room in the residence, where Doroshov said he “challenged officers.” Ultimately, police used a nonlethal device — bullet-like sponge rounds — to bring the incident to a close.
“Fearing he might still be armed with a knife, they (the officers) used that to subdue him and take him into custody,” Doroshov said. The man was transported to Kaiser Vacaville with what were described as self-inflicted knife wounds.
The incident remained under investigation as of late Monday night, with no immediate reports of an arrest. Further details were expected to be released Tuesday.
