A man was struck and killed early Friday morning while attempting to cross Highway 50 in West Sacramento on foot, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Yolo County coroner’s officials identified him as Bryce Alan Schanback, 42, a transient from the Bay Area.

The CHP reported that Schanback was trying to walk north across the eastbound lanes of Highway 50 east of Interstate 80 when he was hit by multiple vehicles at about 4:45 a.m. Several of the motorists stopped at the collision scene.

CHP officers continue to investigate the collision, but say neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be factors. Anyone with information is urged to contact the CHP’s Woodland-area office at 530-662-4685.
