A Winters teen remained hospitalized at the UC Davis Medical Center on Monday after being struck by a vehicle while riding her bicycle last week.
The California Highway Patrol reported that 18-year-old Haley Noelle Angel Neto was riding her bike in the dark and without a helmet when the vehicle struck her from behind at about 8 p.m. Thursday on northbound County Road 98 at Road 27 southwest of Woodland. Neto was ejected from the bicycle and landed on the hood of the vehicle before being thrown into the intersection.
CHP Officer Bryan Konvalin said the driver, 53-year-old Bruce Ely of Woodland, hadn’t seen Neto in the roadway and was unable to slow or move his vehicle in time to avoid a collision.
Konvalin said Neto suffered “severe” injuries and was taken by CalStar air ambulance to the Med Center, where she was listed in good condition Monday. Ely sustained minor lacerations from broken glass but declined medical aid.
