Police arrested 27-year old Jose Meza, a Sacramento resident, after he allegedly tried to evade police and discard his drug paraphernalia early Saturday in downtown Davis.

The incident began at 1:15 a.m., with Davis police responding to reports of a physical alternation on Third Street near Bistro 33. Once there, responding officers identified Meza as matching a description given of one of the men involved in the fight.

According Sgt. Mike Munoz, Meza reacted by fleeing on foot when contacted by the officers. Munoz added that Meza threw an item he was holding, later identified as a methamphetamine pipe, during his block-long sprint to evade police.

Meza was quickly apprehended and taken into custody on charges of resisting arrest and possession of narcotics paraphernalia.
