Woodland police say a Davis man is responsible for the robbery of an 81-year-old woman last fall and has been detained in North Carolina on unrelated charges.

Ramsey Lee Spivey, 42, allegedly fled from police on Nov. 30 — five days after the robbery — in a stolen vehicle as officers tried to question him about the crime at his home, Detective Dallas Hyde said Friday.

The robbery occurred at about 11:15 a.m. on Nov. 25 as the elderly woman was walking in the 400 block of Ashley Avenue in Woodland, using a walker with a storage compartment underneath the attached seat.

The woman told police that the suspect pushed her in the back as he reached around her and removed her wallet from the storage compartment, then left the scene on foot.

Someone then tried using the woman’s credit cards at several locations in Woodland and Davis and was caught on surveillance camera driving a silver Volvo sedan, Hyde said.

That was the car officers spotted outside Spivey’s Davis home, Hyde said. In January, detectives learned he was in custody in North Carolina and obtained a warrant for his arrest in connection with the robbery.

Authorities are now awaiting Spivey’s extradition to California, Hyde said.
