The Davis Fire Department is investigating the cause of a late-night blaze Tuesday that damaged a South Davis apartment and temporarily displaced its residents.
Fire officials said the incident was reported shortly after 11:30 p.m. at the Meadow Ridge Apartments, 4447 Cowell Blvd. The fire appeared to have started in a water-heater closet outside but adjoined to the ground-floor unit.
The fire did not extend into the apartment itself, but the residence did sustain some smoke damage, and fire crews cut holes into the ceiling to ensure flames had not extended into the attic area, officials said. No injuries were reported.
