Nine people were displaced from their homes Saturday after a fire damaged part of a Woodland apartment complex, according to the Woodland Fire Department.

Battalion Chief Ernie Fatta said crews responded shortly after 6 p.m. to the Shade Tree Apartments, 220 California St., where initial reports indicated there was heavy fire showing from at least one unit with possible victims inside.

A second alarm was requested, which brought additional units to the scene and provided coverage for other calls in the city. The fire was quickly knocked down and one victim was treated on scene for smoke inhalation, Fatta said.

Of the eight units in the building, one unit was completely destroyed and three others were deemed uninhabitable due to the extent of the damage, Fatta said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Firefighters from the Davis, UC Davis, Willow Oak, Yocha Dehe, Yolo and West Sacramento fire departments provided mutual aid during the incident, Fatta said.
