Gusty winds may have been to blame for a motorcycle crash that killed a 49-year-old man Saturday in West Sacramento, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Yolo County coroner’s officials identified the victim as Tim Arias of West Sacramento, who was riding a 2008 Kawasaki when the collision occurred at about 3:40 p.m. on westbound Interstate 80 on the Yolo Causeway.

“It is believed the rider may have lost control due to high winds gusting in the area,” CHP Officer Rodney Fitzhugh said. He noted that Arias was riding in the slow lane when he drove off the roadway to the right, sustaining fatal injuries when he hit a concrete jersey wall and fence.

Neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to be factors in the crash, Fitzhugh said. Westbound I-80 was temporarily shut down while officers conducted their investigation. All lanes were cleared and reopened at about 6:45 p.m.
