The Davis Fire Department is investigating the cause of an apartment fire that temporarily displaced the residents of four units Sunday afternoon.
Capt. Brian Lynch said the blaze started at about 3:15 p.m. in the bedroom of a second-floor apartment at the Drake Apartments, 919 Drake Dr. Fire crews from all three Davis stations and UC Davis responded to the incident, which reached second-alarm status.
The cause of the fire, which resulted in about $120,000 in damage, is not believed to be suspicious in nature.
According to Lynch, the unit where the fire originated was occupied when it began, but the residents had already evacuated by the crime crews arrived on scene, as did their neighbors.
Although the fire didn’t spread to any neighboring apartments, smoke and water damage resulted in a total of four units being temporarily uninhabitable, Lynch said.
Those who were still in town were put up in a hotel for the night by the apartment manager. The Red Cross typically provides additional assistance to fire victims.
Lynch reported that a firefighter twisted his knee while performing his duties, but others escaped injury. Fire crews from Woodland and West Sacramento provided station coverage during the incident, which was cleared around 6:45 p.m.
