Woodland police announced Wednesday an arrest in a 2016 homicide case.
The victim, 31-year-old Arnulfo Bermudez of Woodland, was fatally shot at about 12:40 a.m. June 29, 2016, in the 500 block of Community Lane. Officers responding to reports of shots fired in that area discovered Bermudez in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that had crashed into a parked car.
In a news release, Woodland police Sgt. Dallas Hyde said the Yolo County Gang Task Force took over the investigation and developed leads that resulted in the arrest this week of Woodland resident Christian Rizo, a validated Norteño gang member.
Rizo, 19, was taken into custody at about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday during a traffic stop on Highway 113 and County Road 24, Hyde said. He was booked into the Yolo County Jail on charges of homicide, attempted homicide, participation in criminal street-gang activity and gang enhancements.
His arraignment hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday in Yolo Superior Court.
Hyde declined to specify the basis for the attempted-homicide charge, citing the ongoing investigation. Anyone with information about this case is urged to call the Woodland Police Department at 530-666-2411 or 530-661-7800.
