A Madison man died Wednesday from injuries he sustained in a two-vehicle collision north of Esparto, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Lionel Luna was driving a northbound vehicle that was broadsided by an eastbound car at the intersection of County Roads 14 and 87 shortly before 6 p.m. CHP Officer Rodney Fitzhugh said both vehicles entered the intersection at the same time; only Road 14 is controlled by stop signs in the eastbound and westbound directions.
Both Luna and the driver of the other car, a 42-year-old Yuba City woman, were transported with major injuries to Kaiser Hospital in Vacaville, where Luna succumbed to his wounds, Fitzhugh said. The woman’s name was not released.
Solano County coroner’s officials reported that Luna was 34 years old, although CHP reports put his age at 29.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation, but Fitzhugh said intoxication does not appear to be a factor.
