A 48-year-old El Macero man died Tuesday following a single-vehicle collision near the Yolo County Landfill, the Woodland California Highway Patrol office reported Thursday.

Sacramento County coroner’s officials identified him as Tevita Bolakivei Waqairawai.

Officer Rodney Fitzhugh said Waqairawai was at the wheel of a Lexus LS 460 that crashed into a chain-link fence while traveling eastbound on County Road 28H east of County Road 104, then caught fire. The incident occurred shortly after 4 p.m.

Waqairawai, who had suffered an apparent medical emergency while driving, was transported to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, where he later passed away.

A passenger in the Lexus, 88-year-old Julian Youmans, also of El Macero, was not injured in the collision, Fitzhugh said.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Woodland CHP Office at 530-662-4685.
