Davis police are investigating a shooting they say stemmed from a drug deal gone bad.

Staff at Sutter Davis Hospital alerted police shortly after 9:30 p.m. Sunday that a man had arrived in the emergency room with a gunshot wound to his lower leg, Lt. Tom Waltz said. The 46-year-old Davis resident disclosed he had been shot during a drug transaction in the 1600 block of Joshua Street.

“The victim met the suspect to sell him drugs. The suspect stole the drugs and ran, the victim pursued him, and was shot by the suspect,” Waltz said.

Despite his injury, the man was able to drive himself to the hospital for treatment of the wound, which was not believed to be life-threatening, Waltz said. He described the suspect as a black male in his mid-20s, 5-foot-6, 140 pounds, with light facial hair and wearing an olive-green winter hat, black jacket and dark pants.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Davis Police Department at 530-747-5400.
