A Woodland burglary victim fought back Saturday, detaining a man who allegedly stole thousands of dollars worth of tools and other property from his home.

Sgt. Aaron Delao said officers were summoned at about 6 a.m. to the area of Fourth Street and Lincoln Avenue, where they arrived to find a man being pinned down on the sidewalk. A second person told police he had witnessed the downed man taking tools from his detached garage.

Officers detained the suspect, identified as 55-year-old Michael Gabriel Luna of Woodland.

“The victim told officers that while he was in his home, he saw Luna push a rototiller from his property and move it across the street. Luna was also seen loading power tools into an empty garbage tote which he used to haul the property from the back yard,” Delao said.

“The victim said that his property was taken from a locked garage in the back yard which had been broken open.”

Police eventually recovered $4,000 worth of the victim’s property from Luna’s Sixth Street home, Delao said. Luna received medical treatment for injuries from the citizen’s arrest before being lodged at the Yolo County Jail on suspicion of first-degree burglary.
