WOODLAND — An anticipated four-week trial began in Yolo Superior Court last week for the man accused of fatally beating a Davis toddler back in 2014.
Darnell D’Angelo Dorsey faces felony child assault charges in connection with the death of 20-month-old Cameron Morrison, the son of Dorsey’s girlfriend at the time.

Jury selection took place over several days last week and will continue on Monday in Judge Paul Richardson’s courtroom.
Cameron died on Jan. 25, 2014, three days after his mother arrived home to find the unconscious toddler in Dorsey’s arms. Dorsey had been caring for Cameron and his older half-brother at their Olive Drive mobile home.
Dorsey, 23, has pleaded not guilty. He reportedly admitted slapping and shaking the boy, but said it was because he had become unresponsive after possibly choking on food.
Doctors testified at Dorsey’s preliminary hearing that Cameron was suffering from brain injuries, broken ribs and internal organ damage upon arriving at the hospital — some of the wounds indicating he had suffered from ongoing abuse.
