A Woodland woman faces felony drunken driving charges after allegedly causing a head-on collision Sunday on Old River Road between Woodland and West Sacramento.
According to a California Highway Patrol news release, 37-year-old Josie Ferrera was traveling northbound at about 8:40 p.m. when her Dodge Caravan drifted into the southbound lane, colliding head-on with a Chevy Silverado whose driver was unable to avoid the crash.
Several people in the area who either heard the collision or came upon it afterward extricated Ferrera from her vehicle before it burst into flames. Both she and the Chevy’s driver, 26-year-old Zachary Bryant of Chico, were transported to the UC Davis Medical Center with major injuries, the CHP reported.
Ferrera was not taken into custody pending her recovery but is expected to be charged following the Yolo County District Attorney’s review of the case, CHP Officer Pedro Leon said Tuesday.
