Davis police arrested one man and are seeking a second who allegedly stole landscaping equipment and led officers on a brief vehicle pursuit Thursday.
Lt. Tom Waltz said the incident began when someone spotted the two suspects stealing the equipment from a parked trailer in the 1200 block of Alvarado Avenue. Police arrived on scene and attempted a vehicle stop, but the suspects drove away.
A roughly half-mile chase ensued, ending when the suspects crashed into a parked vehicle in the 900 block of Drake Drive, Waltz said. Both men ran from the crash, but officers were only able to capture the passenger.
Kinnith Ray Bell Jr., 39, of Sacramento, was lodged at the Yolo County Jail on suspicion of grand theft, conspiracy, evading police and hit-and-run, Waltz said. Police are still looking for the driver, identified as 35-year-old Shafeeq Purdy of Sacramento.
