Two Emerson Junior High School students received police citations this week after one of the teens used a friend’s stun device on a fellow student.
Police Chief Darren Pytel said officers were summoned at about 1:30 p.m. Monday to the 2121 Calaveras Ave. campus, where a 15-year-old boy was in possession of a stun device that he apparently had purchased online.
Pytel said the boy showed the device to other students, one of whom took control of it and used it on another student who was not willing to have it used on him.
Officers cited the student who used the stun device on suspicion of battery, while the boy who brought the device to school was cited for bringing a weapon on campus, Pytel said. Both teens were released to the custody of their parents.
Police clarified that the device in question was not a Taser, as it did not deploy darts and wires as the law-enforcement tools do.
