A persistent Davis fire crew stopped a small fire in its tracks early Monday morning, preventing it from causing further damage to a South Davis elementary school.
Fire Investigator Luis Parrilla said the crew responded shortly after 3:30 a.m. to a fire alarm that had activated at Pioneer Elementary School on Hamel Street. Nothing appeared amiss at first, so the crew brought out a thermal imaging camera and heat-detecting tool to seek out above-average temperatures.
“While investigating they found a fire inside one of the classrooms,” a small blaze that was contained to a water cooler, Parrilla said. The crew forced entry into the classroom and extinguished the fire.
