Vandals smashed windows at five Davis coffee shops during the early-morning hours Tuesday, targeting the Starbucks and Peet’s chains.

Davis police Lt. Tom Waltz said the first report came from the Peet’s in The Marketplace on West Covell Boulevard, where an employee who was inside heard glass breaking at about 3:30 a.m. Upon investigation, the employee saw a possible suspect in a gray hooded sweatshirt riding away on a bicycle.

Over the next several hours, additional vandalism reports came in from the Peet’s on E Street in downtown Davis and the Starbucks shops on Lyndell Terrace in West Davis, at University Mall on Russell Boulevard and on F Street downtown. In each case, the suspect shattered glass doors and windows, causing several thousand dollars worth of damage.

No injuries were reported, Waltz said.

The incidents remain under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Davis Police Department at 530-747-5400.
