Davis police arrested six people Thursday after finding a suspected drug manufacturing lab while investigating an unrelated crime.

The discovery occurred that morning, when officers armed with a search warrant related to suspected financial and elder-abuse crimes arrived at the duplex at 4917 and 4919 El Cemonte Ave., according to Lt. Tom Waltz.

“In the process of serving the search warrant, the detectives uncovered evidence of a drug lab” that was being used to make DMT, or dimethyltryptamine, a hallucinogenic drug, Waltz said.

The suspects were detained inside the two residences, several of them seen sitting on the shared driveway while officers from the Davis Police Department, the Yolo Narcotic Enforcement Team and the California Department of Justice processed the scene.

Six people were arrested on various drug-related charges: Mellisa Easley, 18, of Sacramento; and Davis residents Elizabeth Chastain Mauvais, 53; Doyle Dean Chastain, 31; Christopher Richard Flores, 27;  John Allen Randall, 30; and Mitchell Scott Timm, 25. Flores and Randall also face conspiracy charges, Waltz said.

One neighbor who declined to give her name said she’s frequently seen police cars outside the duplex, but did not know the nature of the calls that brought them there. Waltz confirmed there has been police activity at the duplex in the past.
