Lance Bernard Jett was arrested at about 1:30 p.m. Monday after a CHP officer stopped him for speeding on Interstate 5 near County Road 95. Officer Pedro Leon said Jett initially gave a false name and birthdate to the officer, who eventually arrested him on suspicion of being under the influence of drugs and possessing heroin and marijuana.

Upon learning his true name, however, officers determined Jett was wanted for an attempted murder that occurred in the city of Tracy on Dec. 15.

According to the Tracy Press newspaper, Jett is alleged to have walked into a Nation’s Giant Hamburgers restaurant and shot a man identified as his brother-in-law in the abdomen. He then fled the scene and eluded capture despite a ground and air search of the surrounding neighborhood.

Jett, a Stockton resident, is being held at the Yolo County Jail on the $2 million arrest warrant as well as the drug and false-information charges, Leon said.
