A Woodland man is facing attempted carjacking charges after allegedly trying to pull a man from his car early Sunday morning.

Woodland police Sgt. Brett Hancock said officers responded shortly after 1:30 a.m. to the area of West Cross and Cottonwood streets, where the alleged victim reported that about 15 people surrounded his vehicle as he tried to drive through the intersection.

“One of the subjects grabbed him and attempted to forcibly remove him from the vehicle,” Hancock said. “The victim was able to free himself from the suspect’s grasp and continue driving,” escaping without injury.

Hancock said arriving officers made contact with 21-year-old Joshua Ray Sims, who is believed to be the person who tried to pull the driver from his car. He was booked into the Yolo County Jail on suspicion of attempted carjacking and public intoxication.
