West Sacramento police announced Tuesday the arrest of a Stockton man in connection with a weekend shooting that critically wounded a 13-year-old girl.
Sonny Martinez, 39, was taken into custody in Stockton on suspicion of attempted murder, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, battery causing serious bodily injury and an enhancement alleging participation in criminal street-gang activity, Sgt. Roger Kinney said in a news release.
Martinez is scheduled to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Yolo Superior Court. In the meantime, he is being held without bail at the Yolo County Jail.
The shooting occurred at about 8:50 p.m. Saturday in the 900 block of Solano Street, where the girl, at home with her grandmother, was struck in the head after several bullets were fired into the residence.
Police did not disclose Martinez’s connection, if any, to the victim and her family. The teenager remains in critical condition at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.
The investigation into the shooting is still ongoing, Kinney said. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call investigators at 916-372-3375, or the Police Department’s crime tip hotline at 916-617-4747.
