Davis police arrested a man Sunday after he allegedly stole an unattended car at Second and D streets.
Lt. Ton Phan said 59-year-old Scott Lovell, a transient, took the parked vehicle, which had the key in the ignition, then abandoned it several blocks away near Fourth and E streets. He was arrested later in the day after being identified as a suspect and booked into the Yolo County Jail on vehicle theft charges.
“This is a good reminder to the public to not leave their car unattended with the keys in the ignition. It’s just too tempting for some to not take advantage of a free ride,” Phan said.
