A downtown disturbance witnessed by a Davis police officer led to a 24-year-old man’s arrest last week.
Lt. Ton Phan said Monday that the officer was patrolling the area of Third and D streets shortly after 2 a.m. Friday when the suspect, David Robert Smith, either hit or pushed a woman who then fell to the ground. Smith then approached one of several nearby males and allegedly punched one of them in the face several times.
Smith reportedly ran as the officer moved in, but was eventually detained and arrested on suspicion of battery with serious bodily injury, fighting in a public place and resisting a police officer, Phan said. He was booked into the Yolo County Jail.
