Two people escaped unharmed from a fire that destroyed their Woodland apartment early Sunday morning.
Woodland Fire Department Battalion Chief Greg Robinson said the fire was reported at about 1:45 a.m. at an apartment in the 400 block of Community Lane. Crews arrived to find the second-story unit fully involved in flames, but were able to contain the blaze by shortly after 2 a.m. with only minimal damage to the neighboring unit.
The cause of the fire was determined to be food accidentally left cooking on a kitchen stove, Robinson said. Damage to the property was estimated at $85,000, with another $20,000 in content losses.
