Two people suffered significant injuries Friday night when they were attacked by a carload of men near the corner of First and D streets in downtown Davis.

Davis Police Cpl. Steve Ramos said the incident occurred at 11 p.m. when a carload of young men driving what witnesses described as either a gold or silver Acura sedan began yelling at two individuals walking on the sidewalk.

When the pedestrians yelled back, Ramos said, several of the men, described as black adults between the ages of 18 and 22, jumped out and assaulted the victims. One victim had three teeth knocked out, Ramos said, and the other required stitches to his forehead. He was unable to provide additional information about either victim.

After the assault, Ramos said, the assailants jumped back in the car and fled prior to the arrival of police officers. The car was last seen in the vicinity of Davis Commons.

Nothing was taken from the suspects during the assault.

“It was a verbal altercation that led to a physical altercation,” Ramos said.
