WOODLAND — A Yolo Superior Court judge ruled Thursday there is sufficient evidence for a Davis man accused of injuring a motorcyclist in a hit-and-run crash to stand trial on the charges against him.
Judge Samuel McAdam’s ruling came following a preliminary hearing for the defendant, 58-year-old Brian Douglas Cassidy, who is accused of drunken driving causing great bodily injury, hit-and-run and driving on a suspended license in connection with the Dec. 17 collision. He has pleaded not guilty.
Thursday’s hearing included testimony from Cassidy’s alleged victim, Nikolas Kostelny of Davis, whose right arm was shattered after Cassidy allegedly drifted into the wrong lane on Chiles Road and struck Kostelny head on, then fled the scene as the injured motorcyclist pleaded for help.
Cassidy is due back in court April 24 for arraignment on the charges. He remains in Yolo County Jail in lieu of $155,000 bail in the meantime.
